Frontend Software Engineer, Web Standards & Chrome

About the Role

Join Google’s engineering team at the Gurugram campus, where you will design, develop, test, and deploy front‑end solutions that shape web standards across Chrome and other Google products, impacting billions of users worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and implement high‑performance web features for Chrome and Google web products.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (UX, backend, product) to define specifications and deliver pixel‑perfect implementations.
• Write clean, maintainable JavaScript/TypeScript code adhering to Google’s style guides.
• Drive performance optimization, accessibility, and security best practices.
• Participate in code reviews, mentorship, and contribute to open‑source web standards initiatives.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional front‑end development experience.
• Expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Lit).
• Deep understanding of web performance, rendering pipelines, and browser internals, especially Chrome.
• Experience with build tools (Webpack, Babel) and testing frameworks (Jest, Karma).
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work at Google scale.

Nice to Have

• Contributions to web standards bodies (W3C, WHATWG) or open‑source projects.
• Familiarity with Service Workers, WebAssembly, or Progressive Web Apps.
• Knowledge of backend APIs, GraphQL, or gRPC.
