Senior Backend Engineer, High-Throughput Distributed Systems

About the Role

Google Hyderabad is expanding its backend engineering team to power high‑throughput, globally‑distributed services used by billions of users. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will design, develop, test, and operate large‑scale systems that meet Google’s performance, reliability, and scalability standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and implement high‑performance backend services using Java, C++ or Go.
• Design micro‑service APIs and data pipelines that handle massive traffic spikes.
• Collaborate with product, SRE, and security teams to ensure end‑to‑end reliability.
• Drive performance tuning, capacity planning, and fault‑tolerance strategies.
• Mentor junior engineers and champion best practices in code quality and testing.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years of professional software development experience in backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in at least one of Java, C++, or Go.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts (consensus, sharding, replication).
• Hands‑on experience with micro‑service architecture and REST/gRPC APIs.
• Proficiency with Google Cloud Platform services (Compute Engine, Pub/Sub, Bigtable, Spanner).
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and solid grasp of data structures & algorithms.
• Experience with Linux environments and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

Nice to Have

• Experience building real‑time streaming pipelines (Dataflow, Flink).
• Knowledge of performance profiling tools and low‑latency networking.
• Contributions to open‑source projects or published research in distributed computing.
