Senior PHP Developer

About the Role

PhiTech Labs is seeking a seasoned Senior PHP Developer to own end‑to‑end production systems. You will design, build, and maintain high‑performance backend services, interact directly with clients, and drive technical decisions from architecture to deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable backend applications and REST APIs using CodeIgniter.
• Design normalized MySQL schemas, write complex queries, and optimise performance with EXPLAIN, indexing, and N+1 query fixes.
• Implement Redis caching, queues, workers, retries and batching for high‑throughput scenarios.
• Build reliable inventory and stock flows handling concurrent load, transactions, row locking and atomic updates.
• Integrate third‑party APIs and payment gateways with idempotent webhooks, failure recovery and back‑off strategies.
• Apply security best practices: authentication, SQL‑injection, XSS, CSRF prevention, and S3 pre‑signed URLs.
• Own CI/CD pipelines, database migrations, rollbacks and production troubleshooting.
• Collaborate directly with clients to gather requirements, explain trade‑offs and manage timelines.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 8+ years of professional PHP backend development.
• Strong OOP and SOLID principles applied in production code.
• Deep expertise in CodeIgniter (MVC flow: route → controller → service → model).
• Advanced MySQL skills: complex JOINs, GROUP BY/HAVING, subqueries, window functions.
• Production‑grade Redis experience: caching, invalidation, sessions, multiple DB connections.
• Solid understanding of transactions, isolation levels, locking and overselling prevention.
• Experience building idempotent payment webhooks with retry/back‑off logic.
• Excellent spoken and written English; comfortable with client‑facing interactions.

Nice to Have

• AWS services (especially S3).
• Experience migrating from CodeIgniter 3 to CodeIgniter 4 or Laravel.
• Docker containerisation.
• Unit testing with PHPUnit.
• Background in e‑commerce, inventory or payment‑intensive systems.
