Sr. Laravel Developer (Backend Engineer)

About the Role

SimuPhish is a next‑generation phishing and vishing simulation platform that helps organisations strengthen their human firewall through AI‑driven security awareness simulations. As a Sr. Laravel Developer (Backend Engineer), you will design, develop, and maintain high‑performance backend services that power our SaaS ecosystem, including simulation engines, reporting dashboards, and AI analytics modules.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimise, and maintain backend logic using Laravel 12 (PHP 8.3+).
• Architect and build secure, scalable RESTful APIs for the SaaS platform and AI modules.
• Integrate Laravel services with FastAPI micro‑services, AI endpoints, and third‑party APIs.
• Design and tune database schemas in MySQL/PostgreSQL, applying indexing and query optimisation.
• Implement robust authentication and authorization using Laravel Sanctum, Passport, or JWT.
• Build and manage background jobs, queues, and event‑driven workflows with Redis and Horizon.
• Write clean, modular, testable code and enforce version‑control best practices (Git).
• Collaborate with Frontend (Next.js) and DevOps teams to ensure smooth CI/CD pipelines.
• Maintain high standards for performance, security, and data protection.
• Write unit, feature, and integration tests using PHPUnit and Pest.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years of professional experience developing large‑scale Laravel applications.
• Strong command of PHP 8.x, OOP principles, and design patterns.
• Deep experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and query optimisation.
• Proficiency in building and securing RESTful APIs (OAuth2, JWT, rate limiting).
• Hands‑on experience with Redis, Laravel Horizon, and queue management.
• Familiarity with Docker, Git, and CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
• Solid understanding of security best practices (OWASP, input validation, encryption).
• Experience writing automated tests (PHPUnit, Pest) and practising TDD.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to FastAPI (Python) micro‑services and inter‑service communication.
• Knowledge of event‑driven architectures and message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform).
• Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes).
