About the Role
Google's Mumbai engineering hub is seeking a Frontend Software Engineer to join the Web Standards & Chrome team. You will design, develop, test, and ship high‑performance web technologies that power Google products used by billions worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement modern, standards‑compliant UI components for Chrome and other Google web products.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (UX, backend, performance, accessibility) to deliver seamless user experiences.
- Drive performance, security, and accessibility best practices across the codebase.
- Contribute to open‑source initiatives and internal tooling that shape web standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and participate in code reviews.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years of professional experience building complex web applications.
- Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern web APIs.
- Strong understanding of web standards, browser rendering pipelines, and Chrome internals.
- Experience with performance profiling (Lighthouse, Chrome DevTools) and optimization techniques.
- Proficiency in building reusable UI components (Web Components, Lit, or similar).
- Solid grasp of accessibility (WCAG) and internationalization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Contributions to web standards bodies (W3C, WHATWG) or open‑source projects.
- Knowledge of C++ or Rust for low‑level browser work.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
