Frontend Software Engineer, Web Standards & Chrome

About the Role

Google's Gurugram campus is home to a world‑class engineering team building the next generation of web experiences for billions of users. As a Frontend Software Engineer focused on Web Standards & Chrome, you will design, develop, test, and ship high‑impact features that shape the future of the open web.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain core web platform components used across Google products.
• Drive implementation of modern web standards, ensuring compatibility, performance, and security.
• Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and backend engineers to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Write robust, testable code and own the full lifecycle from design to production monitoring.
• Contribute to open‑source initiatives and internal tooling that improve developer productivity.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years of professional experience building large‑scale web applications.
• Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern frameworks (React, Web Components).
• Strong understanding of browser internals, Chrome architecture, and web standards (HTML, CSS, DOM, Accessibility).
• Experience with performance profiling, optimization, and delivering low‑latency user experiences.
• Proficiency with testing frameworks (Jest, Karma) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Bazel, Webpack, or other build systems.
• Contributions to open‑source web projects or standards bodies.
• Knowledge of progressive web apps, Service Workers, and WebAssembly.
