Frontend Software Engineer, Web Standards & Chrome

About the Role

Join Google's engineering team in Bengaluru, working on the Web Standards and Chrome initiatives. You will design, develop, test, and ship high‑impact frontend solutions that power Google services for billions of users worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain core web platform components used across Chrome and Google web products.
• Implement modern, standards‑compliant UI using JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and Web Components.
• Optimize performance, memory usage, and load time at web scale.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including product, design, and backend engineers.
• Write robust unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests to ensure reliability.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical roadmap planning.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years of professional experience building large‑scale web applications.
• Deep expertise in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and modern front‑end tooling.
• Strong understanding of web standards, browser rendering pipelines, and Chrome internals.
• Proven track record of performance optimization and cross‑browser compatibility.
• Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, Karma, or Mocha.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and strong communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with TypeScript and modern frameworks (React, Angular, or Lit).
• Knowledge of WebAssembly, Service Workers, or Progressive Web Apps.
• Contributions to open‑source web standards or Chromium projects.
