Senior Backend Engineer – Distributed Systems

About the Role

Join Google's engineering team in Bengaluru (Google Bangalore Campus, RMZ Infinity / Bagmane Tech Park). As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, develop, test, and deploy high‑throughput distributed systems that power Google‑scale services used by billions worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and implement large‑scale backend services handling massive traffic and low latency requirements.
• Collaborate with product managers, site reliability engineers, and data scientists to define system requirements.
• Write production‑grade code in Java, C++ or Go, adhering to Google’s coding standards.
• Build, benchmark, and optimise micro‑service components for scalability and reliability.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and incident post‑mortems.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical best practices.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, primarily in backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in at least two of Java, C++, or Go.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems concepts: consensus algorithms, sharding, replication, fault tolerance.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Expertise in data structures, algorithms, and performance optimisation.
• Proven ability to design, build, and operate services at scale.

Nice to Have

• Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of networking protocols and security best practices.
• Familiarity with big data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Beam, Flink).
• Contributions to open‑source projects or publications in systems research.
