AI Research Scientist, Large Multimodal Models (Gemini)

About the Role

Google's Gurugram campus is building the next generation of large multimodal models under the Gemini initiative. As an AI Research Scientist you will lead end‑to‑end research, design novel architectures, and translate breakthroughs into production‑ready systems that serve billions of users worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, prototype, and evaluate large‑scale multimodal models (vision, language, audio) that push state‑of‑the‑art performance.
• Develop scalable training pipelines using TensorFlow and PyTorch on Google’s distributed infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product engineers, data scientists, and UX teams to integrate research outcomes into Google products.
• Publish findings in top AI conferences and journals, and contribute to internal knowledge bases.
• Mentor junior researchers and foster a culture of scientific rigor.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on machine learning or AI.
• 5+ years of research experience in deep learning, especially multimodal or generative models.
• Strong programming skills in Python; hands‑on experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, and large‑scale training frameworks.
• Proven track record of publications in top conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ICLR).
• Deep understanding of statistical modeling, optimization, and distributed systems.

Nice to Have

• Experience with reinforcement learning, self‑supervised learning, or foundation models.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud AI services and internal tooling.
• Patents or open‑source contributions in AI/ML.
