Frontend Software Engineer, Web Standards & Chrome

About the Role

Google’s Gurugram campus is looking for a seasoned Frontend Software Engineer to join the Web Standards & Chrome team. You will design, develop, test, and ship high‑impact features that shape the web experience for billions of users worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and implement performant, standards‑compliant UI components for Chrome and Google web products.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (UX, backend, product) to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Drive web performance, accessibility, and security best practices.
• Contribute to Chrome’s rendering pipeline and web platform specifications.
• Write robust unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests; maintain CI pipelines.
• Mentor junior engineers and champion a culture of code quality.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 5+ years of professional frontend development experience.
• Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern frameworks.
• Strong understanding of web standards, accessibility (WCAG), and performance optimization.
• Experience with Chrome’s codebase, DevTools, or browser internals is a plus.
• Proficiency with testing frameworks (Jest, Mocha) and CI/CD tools.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Nice to Have

• Contributions to open‑source web projects or standards bodies.
• Familiarity with WebAssembly, Service Workers, or Progressive Web Apps.
• Experience with large‑scale distributed systems.
